Patrick Chan has finally revealed his new coaching team for the 2016-2017 figure skating season.  According to SkateCanada.ca, Chan will be coached by Marina Zoueva, Oleg Epstein and Johnny Johns.  He will also move his training location to the Arctic Edge Arena in Canton, Michigan.  Patrick Chan released a statement about the decision:

“I am excited to be working with Marina, Oleg and Johnny. They each bring so much to the table and have such a rich history of coaching world and Olympic competitors in all the disciplines. I am looking forward to the season ahead and my first event the Finlandia Trophy in just a couple weeks.”

Chan and former coach Kathy Johnson ended their professional relationship earlier this year.

This is going to be a big season for Patrick if he hopes to hang on until the next Olympics.  Last season was a bit of a difficult one for Patrick who had always been ahead of the curve when it came to skating skills and difficult jumps.  During his time away from the sport, many things changed which negatively impacted his performances last season.  Time will tell whether this new coaching staff will help restore him to the pinnacle of men’s figure skating.

What do you think of Patrick’s coaching change?  Leave a comment and let me know!

Big congratulations are in order for former Olympic figure skater and world medalist, Surya Bonaly.  Her boyfriend, Pete Biver, announced their engagement on his Facebook today.  The happy couple excitedly displayed the ring below.

It is always lovely to see two people truly in love.  These two are practically glowing in the photos above.  I want to wish them nothing but health and happiness for their life together.

Surya has always been a fan favorite on the ice.  If you don’t remember her, here she is performing a blackflip at the 1998 Nagano Olympic Games.  A backflip is a totally illegal move if you didn’t know.

Which program of Surya’s is your favorite?  Leave a comment and let me know!

The quad seems to be an elusive jump to the current crop of US men.  Jason Brown has been hard at work for two seasons now trying to master the quad.  He may have yet to land the jump during competition, but he is landing some beautiful ones in practice.  Check out his successfully landed quad during his short program practice at the 2016 US International Classic.

Do you think Jason will be able to consistently land his quad this season?  Leave a comment and let me know!

US Skater Grant Hochstein is having a pretty epic week.  Not only did he finish in the top 10 at the World Figure Skating Championship, but yesterday he announced he is engaged to his longtime girlfriend, former figure skater Caroline Zhang.  The couple have been in New York City following Grant’s time at Worlds in Boston; I wonder where and how he popped the big question.  They look to be in Central Park in the photo Grant posted to Twitter, below.

I just want to say a big congrats to these two and wish them nothing but happiness!

US Skater Courtney Hicks Withdrawals From Triglav Trophy After Injury!

United States figure skater Courtney Hicks has been in Slovenia this week representing the US in the Triglav Trophy.  Hicks was ranked second after the short program, but decided to withdrawal from the competition after sustaining an injury.  During a practice session on Friday, she performed a double toe and injured her left knee slightly.  Hicks posted an official statement on Twitter, below.  This doesn’t seem to be a major injury so it makes sense her coaches wouldn’t want her to injury it even more by competing in the freeskate.

Let’s all wish Courtney a speedy recovery!
